8th Yorkshire Pudding Rally - Friday 5th - Sunday 7th August 2011

Wakefield MAG attended the 8th Yorkshire Pudding Rally en-mass, with a good number of us helping with the set-up and marshalling the event all weekend.

Lorna, Pingy & Co volunteered for the set-up duties, arriving on site on the Wednesday evening, and spending all day on the Thursday setting up the site, in preparation for the influx of happy rally goers on the Friday.

Setting up the site

Quite a few of us arrived on the Thursday evening, to join the set-up crew for numerous beers and a barbecue at our very own Thursday night marshals only 'party'. It was a bit of a riot and a good night was had by all, as they say. Most of us will never be able to look at a Subaru Imprezza (with Gold Rims) again, without breaking into uncontrollable laughter, courtesy of top impressionist Robert Jaques !!!

Robert did make us all laugh

Friday morning, some of our guys started marshalling the main gate, whilst others chilled in the sunshine on-site or wandered into Chapeltown for Rabbit pie and chips, and a few pints of quality real ale, prior to a siesta, ready for our own shifts.

Two bands played Friday night in the main marquee, but it has to be said, they weren't that good, even going as far as saying the first band on were terrible. Still, the beer was flowing amongst the throngs of happy rally goers, and they probably didn't even notice there was a band on !!!!

Saturday saw a good many nursing hangovers, and the entertainment started at lunchtime with the aptly titled, Smacked Arse Comedy Club in the marquee, whilst just outside was held the bike show, sponsored by Back Street Heroes magazine. The bike show attracted some quality bikes, and we helped judge the show this year, assisted by MAG El Presidente, Ian Mutch.

Bike Show

The overall best in show was a cracking streetfighter and no one seemed to disagree with the judge's decision, on any of the seven winning bikes.

Great to see Jess Owen enter his Yorkshire Warriors Triumph Bonneville America, which had come along on our Yorkshire Warriors Sponsored rideout the month before. Great also to see Jess pick up the prize for Best Paint job !!!

We joined our good friends in Barnsley MAG on the Saturday evening for a monstrous barbeque in the rain, then a wander into the entertainments area, to watch the Saturday night bands and the nearby bonfire.

The Barnsley BBQ

All too soon it was Sunday morning and time to pack up and go home. Our luck had run out with the weather, and the weekend had been a mixture of sunshine and showers (unlike previous YPR's which have seen glorious weather all weekend). Still, the weather hadn't spoiled another thoroughly enjoyable YPR, with over 1500 happy rally goers able to testify to a jolly good time.

A huge thanks to the many Wakefield MAG members who helped with the site set-up, marshalling the event over the weekend, and the site take-down, as it couldn't have run without their heroic and most splendid efforts.
