Wakefield Hospice 10K Race Marshalling - Sunday 20th March 2022

Wakefield Hospice 10K Race

Eight Wakefield MAG members helped to marshal this years Wakefield Hospice 10K race, which was held on Sunday 20th March. Wakefield MAG have provided mobile marshals for a good number of years now, and our assistance undoubtedly helps the event to run smoothly, and generate much needed funds for this very worthy local charity. The event had been cancelled for the last two years due to Covid so it was a very welcome return to this major fundraiser for the Hospice. Competitors were down this year compared to previous years but it still fielded a good number of competitors, included amongst them our very own Wakefield MAG Political Officer, Henry Grainger. We are pleased to report, no issues encountered, everything ran smoothly, and due to the reduced field, it was all over and done with after around three quarters of an hour.

A huge thanks to our 8 race marshals - Martin Kaye, Martin Burgess, Jonathan Greenwood, Chas Milner, Michael Guy, Pete MacGowan and Terry and Sharon Scott.

We have since received the following message of thanks from the Hospice:

Firstly and most importantly, thank you for supporting and being a part of the Wakefield Hospice 10k. Your support, advice and participation all helping put on an amazing event which at helps towards raising much needed funds for patient care, thank you for that.

It was an amazing day thanks to you and we are so glad to have the event back up and running. The event as a whole had an amazing community feel between the runners, spectators and staff on the day.

We could not have ran the event without your invaluable support, the marshals on the day where great and did as they always do, an amazing job - please pass my thanks on. We are on target to raise an incredible £45,000. Though, this is far from previous years and numbers were lower we are over the moon to have the event back in the community and public eye. We hope, that now people know it's back, more come back.

THANK YOU so much for you time, energy and commitment. You helped deliver a great event with minimal issues.

Best wishes,
