A Tale of three cafe's - Sunday 24th April 2022.

The first rideout of the season got off to a flying start with six of us meeting up at The Redbeck Cafe ready for a 9am departure.

After the customary breakfast and coffee's and a quick rundown of the route itinerary we set off along Doncaster road towards Pontefract. Our first stop after about an hour of riding along country roads and passing through quiet quaint villages we arrived at Breighton Ferry on the banks of the River Derwent. There were hundreds of bikes and trikes in attendance as there had been the M.A.D. rally taking place over the weekend and they were all packing up ready for the journey home although some looked the worse for wear and had obviously enjoyed a good time the night before.

This was a good chance for a catch up with Tracy who confessed she hadn't ridden her bike in ages and was glad of the chance to throw her leg over again. Also a blast from the past with old stalwart Steve 'Jagster' Jagger who entertained with tales of past adventures. After another coffee off we went again for another few miles through splendid scenery on surprisingly empty roads apart from the dreaded cyclists and we turned on to the A19 for a few hundred yards and pulled into Strawberry Fields Cafe.

I was immediately greeted by the West Yorkshire rep of the Hinckley Triumph Owners Club who complimented me on my most excellent choice of motorcycle. As it was now lunchtime it seemed sensible to order something to eat from a very extensive menu. Martin had his usual plate of chips dunno how he can eat so many chips but not put on any weight, wish I knew his secret although I have no intention of converting to Veganism, I would rather stay fat LOL. So we sat for a while chewing the fat as Chas would say and generally putting the world to rights and the usual biker shite that for some reason always degenerates into mostly un-PC observations concerning human anatomy. This seems a very popular biker's cafe and I can see why as the food and hospitality of the staff was excellent and the seating areas ideally placed for people watching and laughing at.

On we rode through more little used country roads until we reached familiar territory at Sherburn in Elmet and onward to Newthorpe to our next stop at Squires cafe bar where we were greeted by Steve West and Ash who were lurking in the car park. As predicted it was very busy as the sun was now shining and was actually nice and warm as the day had turned out better than expected.

After more joviality we made our own way home after what had turned out to be a very enjoyable and social rideout.

The next rideout will be on Sunday 22nd May probably heading into the Yorkshire Dales but destination and route to be finalised and weather permitting. Hope to see you at the Redbeck for a 9am start.

Ride safe
