VJMC Show at Lotherton Hall - Sunday 27th July 2014

For the ninth consecutive year, Wakefield MAG hosted the Yorkshire MAG stand at the hugely popular West Yorkshire VJMC Japanese Bike Show, held on Sunday 27th July at Lotherton Hall. We packed the stand with MAG leaflets & literature, posters, flyers, copies of The Road magazine, information, products and a few freebies, in anticipation of the hoardes of bikers all clamouring to join the MAG ranks.

The stand and some of our marshals

We helped our very good friends at the West Yorkshire VJMC by providing 6 marshals to help them run the show, and our marshals were put to good use on the show gate and directing bikes into their appropriate marque row.

There were hundreds of bikes in the show and there was also a very good autojumble too and a good number of people came along to the show just for the autojumble itself, searching for that most elusive rare to find part.

We didn't manage to sign up any new members on our stand but plenty of people took away literature and we may pick up half a dozen or so members if everyone who promised to join actually do so. We sold quite a few Wakefield MAG products, mainly patches and stickers but certainly enough to make a tidy profit (all of which represents donations to MAG's fighting fund).

The weather alternated between glorious sunshine and looming black clouds but other than a few spots, it didn't rain all day.

The show prizes were awarded at 3pm, and there were multiple categories and multiple trophies up for grabs.

It is always worthwhile having a MAG presence at this prestige classic bike show, and the VJMC always reward us with a prime spot right next to their control tent, and smack in front of where the show awards are given.

The highlight of the day for us was watching John who was directing bikes to their marque rows, when a particularly smokey two stroke literally engulfed him in a blue cloud, from which he emerged like a spitfire in a WWII dog fight, coughing and spluttering .... God, I love the smell of two stroke on a morning ;-)

We will find out later what the show made, as all the proceeds go to charity, and over the years, it has made huge donations to five local charities.

The roll of charity donations over the years

A huge thank you to all our volunteer stand & show marshals, who gave absolutely stirling service over the course of the day, as indeed, they always do !!!!!!
