4) Motorcycle Theft Awareness Ride - Sunday 15th April

Our rideout for April will be to participate in the Motorcycle Theft Awareness Ride in Hull. The Hull event is the north's equivalent of the London theft awareness event. This ride out has been planned by Karl Freebury on the back of Operation Yellowfin (#Opyellowfin) in Hull, and is being supported by all Yorkshire MAG Groups, and the wider rider community.

Hull Anti-Theft Awareness Ride

Here's what Karl wrote on the original event:

"Motorcycle theft is on the increase and this ride is to show the criminals that as bikers we stand together & not alone. We shall be riding a complete circuit of known criminal hotspots. The time to stand up is now. Let's help to put a stop to this before it reaches a point where nothing can be done. Gates will be open for bikers to pull into the very large car park from 9.00 am. Show your support as a true biker, scooterist, triker, moped rider or pillion. All size engines are welcome from 50cc upwards. Continuing on from the great work that Humberside Police have been doing with the help of the local two and three wheel community with #Opyellowfin in helping to reduce these thefts and the overall anti-social effect on the public. We shall take to the streets to show the public that bikers are good people and not how they are sometimes depicted in the media. We are really hoping for police assistance to help at junctions & roundabouts. Public safety is at the top of our list and any riders found acting or riding in any way that does not support that will not be tolerated. No overtaking on the ride, no wheelies, no anti social riding. This is your ride and you will be on show to the public so please ride sensibly. The Highway Code MUST be obeyed at all times. Marshals & outriders will be in attendance. Thanks go to Humberside Police for the assistance and to Hull City Council for the authorised use of the Park & Ride car park & help with finalising the route. This will be a great opportunity for bikers from the north to come together and I hope to see you there."

Wakefield participants to meet at Redbeck Cafe, Doncaster Road, Crofton from 07:30 onwards, leaving at 08:00. We will take a learner friendly route over to the Priory Park - Park & Ride site in Hull, to meet up with our fellow Motorcycle Theft Awareness Ride participants from the various other corners of Yorkshire (and beyond). Motorcycle Theft Awareness Ride then sets off from Priory Park - Park & Ride at 10:00.

Our Learner Friendly Route from Wakefield will be: A645, A1041, A614, B1230 & A63 (Pontefract, Knottingley, Snaith, Goole, Howden, South Cave & 'Ull). Hope to see you there !!!

Marshals Required

The call has gone out for ITV marshals. If you would like to help marshal this most splendid event, register at this site: www.magmarshals.co.uk. Volunteer marshals are the lifeblood of the MAG Events and without them, the rallies simply could not run.

9) The Daft Way Up MAG Fundraiser

The Daft Way Up MAG Fundraiser is nearly upon us. Wakefield is fielding five participants for this foolish yet noble adventure, representing 25% of all those taking part: Rep Steve, Clare Ellam, Pete Taplin, Paul & Bob Godfrey. Twenty participants in total are taking part with Leeds MAG also fielding a sizable contingent, with other participants hailing from Sheffield, Cumbria, South Wales and East Anglia.

Daft Way Up Route Map

We are completing approximately 150 mile days (making a total of just over 1,000 miles), all on A and B roads, and all on unsuitable machinery for the journey. We are staying in budget accommodation en-route. Lots of people are already planning to join us for part of the ride (as it passes through their local area), or join us on an evening (I dare say we'll be finding a local pub ;-). Huddersfield MAG are already planning to meet us at our Glossop stopover. The exact route can be found on the Daft Way Up Diary Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/daftwayup. This Diary Page will also feature live progress feeds, so you can follow our madcap journey in 'real time'.

We are still collecting sponsorship, so, if you would like to sponsor us on our daft adventure, there is a Crowdfunding page where you can donate: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/mag-daft-way-up. All funds raised are to be split 50/50 between MAG and Macmillan Cancer Care.

Keithy Bear, Steve Travis (Wakefield Rep) and Manny (Leeds and Yorkshire Rep) on their inappropriate bikes

Wish us all luck ... I think we are going to need it !!!
