4) RIP John Hannon

It is with great sadness that we report the death of John Hannon, who passed away on Sunday 8th June 2014, after losing his battle with cancer. John, together with his wife June were regular attendee's at our meetings and his passing marks the second 'active' Wakefield MAG member, to have died 'in service' this year. Check out John's obituary Here.

5) Huddersfield MAG Celebrates Their 21st Birthday

Our good friends at Huddersfield MAG celebrated their 21st Birthday on Saturday 7th June, with a parade through the centre of Huddersfield. The Huddersfield Examiner newspaper provided a reporter / photographer and gave them a great write-up in the paper: www.examiner.co.uk/news/west-yorkshire-news/huddersfield-motorcycle-action-group-group-7233659

Huddersfield MAG extend a huge thank you to all their friends from around the region for joining in with the ride and the evening party. They raised £207 overall which they are splitting between MAG and Kirkwood Hospice.

6) VJMC Show

Wakefield MAG will again be hosting the Yorkshire MAG stand at this years Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club Lotherton Hall Japanese Bike Show, on Sunday 27th July. In addition to hosting the stand, we will also be helping our good friends at the VJMC marshal this most excellent event. For this year we have been asked to provide marshals (x4) for the show gate, one to filter non-Japanese bikes from registering, and one to cover the actual entry of bikes into the show itself, all split into one morning and one afternoon shift (hence, everyone also gets a chance to look around the show).

If you would like to help out, either the show marshalling, as detailed above, or manning the MAG stand to attract new members and publicise MAG, please let me know.

And, feel free to enter your bike in the show. The show is open to all Japanese motorcycles and despite the name, they don't have to be vintage or classics, you can enter anything (but it must have been made in Japan). Hope to see you there.

7) July Rideout

Our monthly rideout for the month of July, is on Sunday the 6th, to Mr Moo's Ice Cream Parlour, Skipsea. Of course, our rideouts are all about the journey, and not the destination, but with the promise of 'beautiful old-fashioned ice cream', made from the best Yorkshire ingredients, we can think quite obsessively about the destination !!! Check out the website for the delights in store: www.mrmoos.co.uk

Meet 08:30 (leaving at 09:00) at Redbeck Cafe, 339 Doncaster Road, Crofton, Wakefield, WF4 1RT. A picturesque route is guaranteed !!!! Oh, and you can have an ice cream at the end !!! Hope to see you there.

8) Last call for Yorkshire Pudding Rally tickets (and a call for Marshals)

Last call for Yorkshire Pudding Rally tickets .... These traditionally sell out a few weeks after the Farmyard Party and we expect this year to be no different. We still have tickets for sale at the branch meetings (for £20 pre-book only) but as this rally is rapidly approaching (Friday 1st - Sunday 3rd August) and there are no 'on the gate' tickets available, you would be well advised to get yours NOW before they sell out (which they will SOON !!!). So, be very quick if you still want tickets to this most excellent rally, which is held at Escrick Estate off the A19 just above Selby).

On the subject of the YPR, the call will be going out soon for marshals for this event. All the Yorkshire MAG rallies are run by volunteers, who pay for their tickets the same as everyone else. They then freely give up their time, in order to help run those events, in a most professional way. The Yorkshire MAG donations to Central (made from these rally profits and local branch fund raising activity), pay the wage bill of all the staff at MAG Central. Without this volunteer effort, MAG wouldn't be able to employ lobbying staff, without lobbying staff, lots and lots of anti-bike legislation would be passed unopposed and literally, the end of biking as we know it would be upon us in around 5 years. It really is that simple. This is why our volunteer marshals are vital, as there is no spare profit to pay them (that said, there is a very generous marshals package in place ensuring you are fed, watered and T-shirted !!!!).

Visit the Marshals Info section of the YPR website to register as a marshal, and for more info: www.farmyardparty.com/yorkshire-pudding/marshals-info

If you have never volunteered for MAG rally marshalling before, the Yorkshire Pudding Rally is a great introduction, as it's small, relaxed, friendly, none of the shifts are particularly onerous, and it's actually really good fun .... you could just be the saviour of motorcycling for the future generations (I kid you not !!!). A life on strangled small capacity bikes, with leg protectors, air bags, monitoring and speed control systems, automatic surveillance of riding habits, compulsory day-glo, inability to change anything from the manufacturers original specification etc etc ..... doesn't make for a rosy future at all !!!!

Ride Free !!!

9) Tony Berry Memorial Trophy

It was voted unanimously at the last Yorkshire Region Meeting (held on Sunday 15th June) to have an Annual Tony Berry Memorial Award within Yorkshire MAG. Tony was a Leeds MAG rep and MAP Director who unfortunately lost his life on Saturday 26th July 2003 whilst riding his bike to Helmsley to attend the presentation of a cheque to the people of the town towards their swimming pool fund as a thank you from the Farmyard Party organisers.

It is a very fitting tribute to have an Annual Yorkshire MAG award in his honour. The award will be for the 'Outstanding Contribution to Yorkshire MAG', and can be won by individual MAG members e.g. Steve Travis, the Wakefield MAG Rep ;-) or MAG Groups e.g. Wakefield & District MAG ;-)

Nominations are invited from the Yorkshire MAG membership, the final decision will be made by the Yorkshire Region rep, and the award will be presented at the Yorkshire Region AGM, held in October.

A huge thanks to Leeds MAG for donating a huge trophy, so send in those nominations to yorkshire-rep@mag-uk.org !!!!
