3) WYCA Consultation

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) consultation ends on Friday 21st October 2016. It is vital that all motorcyclists add their opinions and views to this consultation as it could result in lots of positive developments for powered two wheeler users across West Yorkshire, including full access to Bus Lanes across Leeds, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield. If you haven't signed this already, please do so by the closing date. Full details below:

MAG is encouraging all motorcyclists to share their views in a crucial survey of opinions being held by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA). The new plan will be a twenty year vision for developing an integrated transport network that supports the needs of West Yorkshire and the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership's Strategic Economic Plan for sustained and healthy economic growth - especially for jobs and housing.

From now till Friday 21st October 2016 the Authority is running a full public and stakeholder consultation on the content of the Transport Strategy and the Bus Strategy.

MAG's Regional Lead on Transport Policy, Steve Bolton, has appealed to all motorcyclists to respond. "This is our chance to have a say on the future of transport services in West Yorkshire. Bikers can make a very big impact on the plans they come up with, but they have to hear from us for that to happen.

Towards the end of the consultation survey, there is a free text box inviting comments and this is the most important part of the survey for us bikers:

Also, share the request for input as widely as you can, and please don't delay - do it now."

Although the consultation closes on Friday 21 October 2016, it's best to make your contribution immediately - it will only take a few minutes and make a huge difference to the status of motorbikes and scooters in the Authority's plans. You'll find the survey at this link: www.yourtravelyoursay.co.uk

Many Thanks

4) Yorkshire Region and MAP AGM

The Yorkshire Region AGM is at the White Horse Inn, Main St, Hutton Cranswick, Driffield YO25 9QN, on Saturday 15th October 2016. We're sharing the day with the MAP Ltd AGM as well, so it'll be an early and prompt start at 10.30 am, with a target of finishing at 1.00 pm with lunch to follow.

The Yorkshire Region AGM agenda is:

  1. Welcome
  2. In memoriam
  3. Regional Rep Report 2015-16
  4. Officers Reports
  5. Branch Reports
  6. Election of Officers (Regional Rep; Vice Rep; Treasurer; Secretary; Membership; Clubs; Press & Media; Political, Deputy Political; Events)
  7. Award
  8. Open Floor - 2017 and beyond

If you wish to know more about any of the Committee posts up for election, please contact Oliver Rose, Regional Rep at oliver.rose@mag-uk.org

Please bring your membership card so you can vote.

Following the Region AGM, a buffet lunch will be served, and the MAP AGM will then start at 1:30 pm.

MAP Directorships are all up for election. Proposals can also be made regarding the rallies, how they are (or should be) run, or indeed the company that runs them, Magic Action Promotions Ltd. A vote may or not be taken at the AGM depending on the significance of your proposal and if it needs to be considered by the Yorkshire region, in which case it may be voted on at the next MAP meeting and this usually takes place at the beginning of the next year.

Following the AGM's, we will be having a bit of a drinkathon and knees up on the Saturday night to finish off the season with a hangover. We have entertainment booked from a band called Novahound. Food is available at the White Horse (a curry selection on the Saturday night at £6.50 per person).

There are also rooms available at £16.00 per person per night including breakfast (to book, contact the pub directly (01377 270383 - tell them you're with the MAG night / AGM on Saturday 15th of October). The pub also has limited camping space for 12 medium tents and also space for 6 campervans or caravans at £8.00 per person including Full English Breakfast.

5) Wakefield MAG Sea Fishing Trip

It's been a good few years since our last sea fishing trip, so we are organising another, this time from Sunderland, on Saturday 15th July 2017. The boats skipper reliably informs us that is the best time for the tides, and hence the best fishing opportunities - being the middle of summer, hopefully the weather will also be hot and the North Sea as calm as a duck pond. The cost is £55 each (for 10 places on the boat) and includes hire of all the gear and the bait. For anyone who wants to go, the deposit (which we are taking now) is £15, and you can pay the balance up front or in monthly instalments of £5. There are only a couple of places remaining but we'll also operate a reserve list in case of any drop outs. If you want to go, let Mick Culpan (or any of the Wakefield MAG Committee) know, at a Wednesday meeting.

7) Biker Quiz Nite

Bingo flyer

Now we are in Autumn, it's not actually that long to the most competitive event of the Yorkshire MAG year ... the hugely popular Wakefield MAG Bikers Quiz Nite !!!

The quiz will be held at 8:00pm on Wednesday 16th November 2016 at the Grey Horse, Kirkgate, Wakefield, WF1 4EJ. We wont mess with a winning formula so it's the same tried and tested 60 questions, 30 of which will be motorcycle related and 30 will be general knowledge (but there will be a bike related link / theme somewhere, however tenuous). The quiz is hotly contested throughout Yorkshire and the prestigious roll of honour is:

Who will win in 2016 ? .... Leeds Again Probably !

Open to All. £1 entry fee p.p. Team (Max. 5) or individual entry. Great prizes for the winners (1st, 2nd & 3rd), plus booby prize for the least number of correct answers.

And just for a change ....... All proceeds to the MAG Fighting Fund ;-)

8) 1st Christmas Toy Run

We are at the early stages of organising a Christmas Toy Run in December (exact date TBC) for Kidzaware (www.kidzaware.co.uk), a local Wakefield based charity that support disabled children, adults and their families (check their website for full details). The charity supports over six hundred families and annually host Christmas parties (due to the numbers they may even have to host two parties this year), and this is where we come in. We collect, wrap and deliver chstristmas presents of toys etc for the kids.

Watch with space for further details once they are firmed up, but in the meantime, start collecting toys and other childrens presents for the donation.

9) Christmas Do

I know it has only just turned October, but you need to plan ahead for Group Bookings for Christmas !!!

Our Christmas do will be held on Saturday 3rd December, starting at the Smokehouse Real BBQ, Wood Street, Wakefield (where we went in 2015). We have made a provisional booking for 15, but we can always add more numbers. The meal will be at 13:00, and suitably fed, we will venture on to many of the Merrie Cities fine hostelries for multiple goblets of foaming ale. You can come for the meal, or meet us at one of the many pubs in town, or do both ... the choice is yours. Wakefield MAG Christmas Do's are always highly memorable, and if last years Christmas do is any indication, we are in for a jolly good time .... Check out the event report(s) if you don't believe me !!!

If you want a reservation making for the meal, let us know (we'll be collecting deposits shortly).

Christmas hats and reindeer antlers strictly optional. Hope to see you there.
