Rideout for Olivia - Sunday 1st September 2013

Sharon & Terry represented Wakefield MAG at the 'Rideout for Olivia' event, held on Sunday 1st September. The Olivia Ride was a Charity Ride in aid of Olivia Pollard and The Children's Hospital Charity in Sheffield, and was jointly organised by FB Bikers, Yorkies VSOC (MAG Affiliated) & Yorkshire Trikers. Olivia Pollard is a 3 year old girl that was badly injured by 3 youths on uninsured field bikes. The ride was organised to show bikers are not all irresponsible idiots, and restore her faith in the biking community.

They joined the run at the M1 southbound Woolley Edge services, where a good few others were also waiting for the off.

The run took the A61 Penistone Road to Western Park in Sheffield where a cheque for £2,525.23p was handed over to Olivia and her mum by the organisers and admin team of the Facebook Bikers.

It was officially stated that 208 bikes were in attendance for the very well organised and marshalled ride from the services to Sheffield Children's Hospital. Donations of toys were also collected and taken over to the hospital by nursing staff.

Raffle tickets were also on sale which raised a further £500 for the charity. When Olivia drew out the winning ticket for a crash helmet and the winner was revealed, the crowds started heckling (in a good natured way), shouting 'fixed', because it was one of the run admin team that had won the prize.

Sharon & Terry saw a few faces that they knew: Barnsley Bob, Barnsley Richard, Barnsley Stuart and also Matt from the VJMC (and Wakefield MAG member) so they all enjoyed a cuppa and chat together.

A few familiar faces

A great event and it certainly achieved it's objective.
