Wakefield MAG Christmas Do - Saturday 3rd December 2016

Thirteen of us went for the Wakefield MAG Christmas meal at the Smokehouse Real BBQ on Wood Street on Saturday 3rd December. A good number of us met before the meal in the Wakefield Beer Exchange, sampling several foaming ales, before heading for the meal at 13:45, where we met the rest of the 'diners'.

We all ordered different dishes and in true restaurant fashion, wished we had ordered what our neighbours had when their's came out ;-) It wasn't too busy (other than a group of rowdy bikers ;-) so the service was pretty quick.

Once we had all finished, the waiter very kindly took the obligatory team photo.

We then headed to our first (or second for some) port of call, the Wakefield Beer Exchange, where we met a few others who hadn't come for the meal, but were up for a 'session' around the many fine hostelries the Merrie City has to offer.

Our next port of call was the Black Rock, which was particularly festive (according to the Wakefield Express, it has the most christmas docorations of any of the city centre pubs ..... and looking around at the acres of tinsel, you could well believe it).

Following several foaming goblets of ale in the Black Rock, we then made our way down Westgate to Hogarths. Hogarths has a nice little outside area where the obligatory big fat cigars could be sampled.

Following Hogarths we made our way in an orderly fashion (OK, staggered) further down Westgate and to a new bar (well, new since last year's Christmas Do), the Tap Room. By this point we had picked up other attendees, and lost a few who had made an early dart.

Our next port of call was the refurbished Elephant and Castle, which has changed a bit since we were last in there on a Wakefield MAG pub crawl.

Our final port of call was the also refurbished Hop, via the Print Room and Harry's Bar, both of which we decided were too rammed for comfort so were skipped.

Numbers were dwindling by this point, which is not surprising as it had been a bit of a marathon. All in all, a most splendid and highly entertaining afternoon and evening, spent in the glorious company of our Wakefield MAG extended family. Bravo !!!!!
