Event Reports

Well - as the only Wakefield MAG member who attended 'The Big Birthday Bash in Blackpool' rally to celebrate 40 years of MAG - it has fallen to me to do the rally report - and no doubt be awarded a large number of brownie points on the Wakey MAG list!!

Sally (from Leeds MAG) and I set off in torrential rain - with the hope that the sun may shine the nearer we got to the seaside - but it wasn't to be. It rained for the duration of our journey - and when we had to stop at 'McDonalds' to check our directions - they had to come and mop up the pool of water surrounding us as we munched our chips and tried to ring out some of our wet gear!.

Upon arrival at the rally site - at Blackpool RUFC in Thornton Cleveleys - we were pleasantly surprised to find a well drained rally site field - which wasn't too muddy at all - a blessing indeed!

Campsite

After setting up our tent and managing to dry off a little - we hit the bar and the marquee for the evening's entertainment. There were three or four bands on each night (Fri and Sat) - highlights on Friday night were 'The Glam Doctors' a 70's glam band that certainly had everyone up on the floor dancing, other bands of note were Gatorville, Hooker and Drea Knight over the weekend.

The rally was well attended from all over the country, with a number of stalls, the usual burger van and a bus into Blackpool on the Saturday for those that felt the need to go on the Big Dipper, ride the donkeys and get some sand between their toes. The weather was much improved on Saturday - and a good day at the seaside was had by one and all - we even found time to watch Saturday afternoon Moto GP in a local 'hostelry'!!

Rally Cuisine

All was dry for our ride back on Sunday - and we took the scenic route home in the sunshine to make up for the rainy motorway ride on the Friday there! A good weekend and rally - thanks to Blackpool MAG/ North West Region.
