1) Yorkshire MAG AGM

The Yorkshire Region Annual General Meeting (AGM) is being held on Sunday 22nd September at The Royal Hotel (Leeds MAG's HQ), Pudsey, LS28 8PR from 10:00 am. All MAG members are encouraged to attend the meeting where we decide who is going to be running your region for the next year and what we're going to focus on. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.

The eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed that the Yorkshire Region meeting is usually held in October. We voted to move it to before the MAG AGC (see below), so that we will know in advance what donation the region will be making to Central, and can hence make our presentation along with the other regions and groups at the end of the AGC .... so now you know ;-)

75 branch points awarded to any Wakefield MAG member in attendance at the Yorkshire MAG AGM.

2) MAG Annual General Conference

The 2019 MAG Annual General Conference is being held on Saturday 28th September, and is being hosted by the 3 West Yorkshire MAG Groups - Leeds, Huddersfield and Wakefield !!!

The AGC is being held at Shaw Cross Sharks ARLFC, Leeds Road, Shaw Cross, Dewsbury WF12 7HP (easy to find from whichever compass point of the UK you are coming from). Secure camping is available on the Friday and Saturday nights, for the bargain price of five pounds p.p. and this includes the use of proper toilets and showers AND includes breakfast on the Saturday and Sunday mornings !!!

Entertainment is laid on for both evenings - Live Acoustic Sets from Kelly Ann Bolland and a biker quiz on the Friday and post conference on the Saturday evening (and fresh from their Farmyard Party big top appearance), we've secured The Interiorz to headline our AGC party on the Saturday night. The party is free to members and a mere 3 pounds to non members.

We are still looking for volunteers to help the AGC weekend run smoothly so do volunteer your services.

You should have hopefully seen the AGC event pullout guide in the latest edition of The Road magazine.

Finally, all the new MAG merchandise will be available at the AGC - We have a revised Yorkshire MAG T-shirt, we have some new embroidered beanie hats and we also have both Yorkshire MAG stickers and screen/window stickers. All will be available from KevKev at the AGC merchandise store. For images, please see: www.facebook.com/yorkshiremag

75 branch points awarded to any Wakefield MAG member in attendance at the MAG AGC.

3) September Rideout

The September Rideout is on Sunday 8th September. The destination will be decided at the meeting on Wednesday 4th September although there is a charity bike show in Hull at which East Yorkshire MAG are hosting the MAG stand at, so that will be in the running for destinations. However, wherever we go, we can promise it will be a Learner friendly route, spectacular scenery guaranteed, as is 10,000 acres of clear blue sky (honest !!!) and all are welcome. Put the date in your diary and keep an eye on our website and our Facebook page for the destination.

Usual meeting place and time - Meet 8:30am (leaving at 09:00am) at Redbeck Cafe, 339 Doncaster Road, Crofton, Wakefield, WF4 1RT. Hope to see you there.

4) September Social Night (Steve's Motorsport Quiz)

Our September Social night will be held on Wednesday 25th September, kicking off at 20:30, in the Grey Horse, Kirkgate, Wakefield. Steve West will be hosting another Motorsport Quiz so be there .... got to be in it to win it as they say !!!

5) Bingo Night

Oct 2019 Bingo Night

Eyes Down for another Fun Filled Night of Bingo !!! Cash and Prize Bingo, and lot's of hilarity guaranteed. All profits to the MAG Fighting Fund. The excitement starts at 20:00 at the Grey Horse, Kirkgate, Wakefield, on Wednesday 30th October.

Hope to see you there.

6) North Yorkshire MAG

We're still wanting to restart Scarborough MAG and York MAG or get a completely new group going in North Yorkshire .... It's just too big an area (and too crammed with cracking biking roads) to not have it's own group(s). However, in the meantime, we have launched a 'virtual' North Yorkshire Group via a North Yorkshire MAG Facebook Group (www.facebook.com/groups/NorthYorkshireMAG). Do join the Group and encourage any of your biker mates in North Yorkshire to join up also and chat with like minded folk in the north of God's own County.

8) Expect motorcyclists at junctions and you're more likely to spot them

GEM Motoring Assist is encouraging drivers to take extra care at junctions, in an attempt to reduce collisions with motorcyclists.

GEM road safety officer Neil Worth said: "Around 30 motorcyclists are killed or injured every day at junctions, usually because of a driver observation error which some years ago picked up the nickname 'SMIDSY' - sorry mate, I didn't see you. Experts point out that as drivers we're not very good at identifying motorcyclists because they occupy such a small part of our field of vision. What's more, if we're not expecting to see one, then the chance of spotting one coming towards us is further reduced, and the risk of a collision is greatly increased."

"Summertime sees many roads becoming busier with weekend riders, but let's make a point of looking out for them at every junction, on every journey. In doing so, we will be greatly reducing this risk, and helping them to be less vulnerable on their journeys. So before pulling out of junctions, look carefully all around. Make a specific check for motorcyclists coming towards you. They're not always easy to spot – but if you're expecting them to be there, then you're far more likely to see them in good time ... and prevent a potentially serious collision."
