Stuart Gething R.I.P

It is with great sadness to report the passing of Stuart Gething, the Scarborough MAG Rep of many years, on Sunday 31st July, after a short illness.

Stuart Gething

Stuart's MAG pedigree was impecable - a MAG member for 33 years, local Group rep and involved (as then Treasurer of Scarborough MAG) in the organisation of the first ever Yorkshire MAG Farmyard Party, back in 1986 at Cat Babbleton Farm.

Known as 'Guzziman' to his friends, and well known for Moto Guzzi ownership, he had also owned many other bike marques over his many biking years.

In addition to his involvement in MAG (and other local MCC's in and around the East Coast), he was also a very active race marshal for the Auto66 Club, marshalling races regularly at the Isle of Man TT, Manx Grand Prix, and his local Gold Cup races at Olivers Mount in Scarborough.

He wasn't originally from Scarborough as he grew up in Wakefield, attending the Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in the city, where his son (and grandchildren) still live.

We (Wakefield MAG) first got to know Stuart when we bumped into Scarborough MAG, whilst attending a Rock Night that East Yorkshire MAG were hosting in Beverley in 2009 (EY MAG Christmas Blues Party - 10th January 2009). We had adjourned to another pub whilst waiting for the band to come on and got talking to another group of bikers, that we only found out well into the conversation, were local Rep Stuart and fellow MAG members from Scarborough MAG - it was a most enjoyable encounter and we had to drag ourselves back to watch the band.

Stuart was a genuinely lovely bloke, as all who met him will readily testify, and he will be hugely missed, not just in MAG circles, but in all the bike clubs and racing organisations he was involved with.

RIP Stuart, it was an honour knowing you. Our thoughts are with Marlene his wife of 36 years and his family at this sad time.
