We aim to provide a channel by which our members can participate in and support the campaigning efforts of the Motorcycle Action Group and the Federation of European Motorcyclists Associations (FEMA).
The local group structure is the backbone of MAG, providing a mechanism for promoting riders interests at the local level. This is all the more crucial as the Govt has devolved so much responsibility for traffic related decisions to local government. Wakefield MAG aims to represent riders interests in the Wakefield and District area. If you are aware of an issue or problem affecting bikers in the Wakefield area, we would love to hear from you. E-mail us, or better still, come along to our meetings. Use this page to report road defects & hazards, to contact your MP/MEP, to find out about Wakefield MAG campaigns and political activity, and for lots of other essential local information. |
Pot holes and damaged road surfaces can be lethal to motorcyclists. If you see any pot holes report these immediately to the Council (for local roads) or the Highways Agency (for Motorways & Trunk Roads).
Report faults through the MAG Fill-It-In Website You can also report a fault directly to Councils and the Highways Agency through these links:

Flooded roads can also be dangerous to motorcyclists, as you have no way of knowing what lies below the surface. Report flooded and waterlogged roads in the Wakefield area at this link:

Diesel is as lethal as black ice in the wet, but takes far longer to disappear. Diesel spills present a very slippery and invisible surface of which the motorcyclist has no warning and it almost inevitably results in the rider and machine parting company, often with serious consequences for the rider. This is also a potential danger for the upcoming vehicles.
Inform the council of any spillages immediately:

The EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED) requires all member states to ensure that the share of energy from renewable sources in road and rail transport using petrol, diesel and biofuels is at least 10% in 2020. To that end, under EU directive 2009/30/EC, petrol retailed in the UK will be allowed to contain up to 10% ethanol (known as E10). It is at this level, that a significant number of vehicles may experience problems affecting vehicle durability, vehicle drivability, fuel economy, emissions and safety.
This campaign is to ensure a detailed and planned implementation of E10 within the UK, in order to avoid a significant number of vehicle operators experiencing fuel compatibility problems: Yorkshire MAG Ethanol Campaign N.B. Finally, some good news on the introduction of 10% Ethanol (E10) into Petrol, which was scheduled to be bestowed on us in 2013. A huge thanks to all of you who followed the Yorkshire MAG campaign, signed the e-Petition, contacted your MP / Transport Minister and responded to the recent Government consultation. All this campaigning has paid off as the Government has now postponed the E10 introduction until 2016. Whilst undoubtedly good news, this is a postponement and not a cancellation, so the campaign is to stay on the 'back burner' for now, but MAG is watching developments carefully, and as and when required, a new National Campaign will be launched. Watch this Space for developments !!! |
Worn, cracked and displaced manhole or inspection covers create a hazard by creating areas of low skid resistance, often at key points along the carriageway. The appearance of a worn or damaged inspection cover in the path of a motorcyclist will often lead to an instinctive swerve which could be potentially hazardous, but more dangerous could be the sudden variation of traction and the resulting loss of control.
This campaign is for consistent grip levels on our highway's roads by promoting the use of composite, non-slip manhole covers and non-slip overbanding. The campaign website contains a petition and a 'report it' function, so that we can track down the owners of particularly badly sited, or damaged manholes. Bikers are Voters is a on-going MAG campaign which is run to co-incide with the UK and European elections. It has been a highly effective political lobbying tool since it was first concevied in 1996. The campaign has evolved and was re-launched at The Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter Show 2009 as Riders are Voters (RAV), and is now supported not just by MAG, but also by the BMF and the Motorcycle Industry (MCIA). Local Campaign - Secure Parking in Wakefield
We are working with Wakefield Council to improve the provision of secure parking facilities for motorcycles within the Wakefield & Five Towns area.
Currently, Motorcycles can park for free in any Wakefield Council controlled 'pay and display' car parks. We hope to add to this facility by the provision of ground anchors and railings so that bikes can be chained to immovable objects, therefore significantly reducing the risk of theft. MAG Foundation A-Z of Secure Motorcycle Parking |
Wakefield MAG does not condone exceeding the speed limit or breaking the law in any way, therefore please do NOT use this link to evade the law. This link is provided so you are aware of where the cameras are located, so you can take extra care at known accident blackspots. |
