4) Edinburgh MAG Rally Tickets For Sale

For a short period only, we have tickets for sale at the weekly branch meetings for that most excellent (and much loved by Wakefield MAG) Edinburgh MAG Ag Ol Anns An Achadh Rally. Yes, after a gap of a year, the Edinburgh MAG rally is back on for 2013, albeit at a new site. This years Edinburgh MAG Ag Ol Anns An Achadh Rally is on Friday 14th - Sunday 16th June (weekend before the Farmyard) at Stair Arms Hotel, Pathhead, Midlothian, EH37 5TX (just off the A68, our favourite route up to Edinburgh, and about 20 miles further south too, so it will be marginally quicker to get to.

Tickets are £14 in advance, so if you want one (or more), let me know asap as we'll need to return any unsold ones shortly. Although it's a traditional camping rally, there is a hotel on site, which is offering a 10% discount to the rally goers. We have booked B&B for just £20 each a night. What !?!?!? ... have we all turned into Softy Walters by booking a hotel for the rally weekend .... Too right !!!!! ... Hot showers, lovely cooked breakfast on proper crockery, central heating, a proper bed .... yep .... I'm a Softy Walter and proud of it ;-)

Further details on the Edinburgh MAG web site: edinburgh.mag-uk.org

Whilst on the subject of rallies, tickets for the Farmyard Party and the Yorkshire Pudding rally are still for sale at the weekly branch meetings:

If you want some rally tickets reserving, do let me know. YPR sells out every year and this year will be no exception, so buy early to avoid disappointment as there are no tickets for sale on the gate. These events collectively provide the vast majority of the vital funds MAG needs to fight the political fight. These events help keep Big Brother out of Biking or as we like to call it, Partying with a Purpose.

5) Call for Farmyard Party Rally Marshals

The call has just gone out for FYP rally marshals. Wakefield MAG has responsibility to marshal the Blues Tent at the FYP (widely recognised as the best place to marshal as it has such a laid back atmosphere). We also manage our own rota so can arrange amongst ourselves the shifts to best suit ourselves. Let me know if you would like to marshal the Blues Tent this year, and we'll gladly slot you into the rota. The same excellent marshalling package as last year is offered to rally marshals, and of course, you get all the marshals perks (showers, dedicated camping, marshals chill out area with free drinks and snacks, food vouchers, T shirt etc).

And shock horror ... we have moved into the new millennium, 13 years late (about right I suppose) but we have an all-new Idiot proof on-line marshals form. You may say that an 'idiot proof form' is a bold statement, but Ian Hill AKA BB from Sheffield MAG has been used as a control in Jan's endeavours to make the perfect techno fear, numpty on-line marshalling form and as our usual techno phobia idiot Jol Lawson is on his holidays until next week, Ian made a great stand in daft lad.

So if you click here: www.farmyardparty.com/farmyard-party/marshals-info you will be transported into this millennium where you can click onto the form and fill it in. You'll still need to fill in the marshals form (even if you have entered your shifts directly onto the Blues Tent rota), as this is required for insurance purposes, and most importantly, it ensures you get your marshals package and T shirt.

Hope you can marshal this year and we look forward to working (and partying) with you !!!!

6) Wakefield MAG Bike Show

As mentioned in last month's newsletter, our popular annual Bike Show is returning to it's former home, the Wakefield Gala at Clarence Park, Wakefield, on May Day Bank Holiday Monday, 6th May.

The show is completely Free to enter (although a donation to MAG will be most appreciated). We look forward to welcoming you and your pride and joy on May Day !!!

7) 40th Anniversary Patch

Hopefully, it's not passed you by that MAG is 40 this year !!!! MAG was formed way back in 1973 by a bunch of long haired denim clad bikers to campaign against the newly introduced helmet law. We have since morphed into the hugely successful political lobbying organisation you all know and love today. To celebrate this momentous birthday, why not treat yourself to the Official 40th Anniversary Patch !!!

the Official 40th Anniversary Patch

This is now available, for a bargain £3, via PayPal at the North West Region web-site: www.north-west-region.mag-uk.org

8) Member States to decide on Road Worthiness Test (RWT)

MAG UK are delighted with the announcement, from FEMA, that the European Parliament Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) have voted to allow the individual Member States to decide whether roadworthiness testing is required.

Already with one of the more rigorous regimes in Europe, MAG UK has been campaigning that the proposals:

This is great news as it means that the UK can keep it's current MoT system (if it ain't broke, don't fix it !!!!). A huge 'Thank You' goes out to all MAG members who have lobbied their Euro MPs on this issue. Keep up the good work, we are making a difference!

9) Into the Valley Rally

Yorkshire MAG's first event of the year, the Into the Valley Rally is rapidly approaching (3rd to the 5th of May). Although our batch of tickets has been returned, you can still pay on the gate for the bargain price of £20. What you you get for this ridiculously cheap price !?!!? .... read on ....

Friday...from 7.30pm

1st - Chu Ma Shu

Marrying influences from bands like AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and Del Amitri, the band has won Battle of the Bands contests in both Helmsley and York. They recorded an E.P. in 2004 with 6K Vision, which was mixed at the infamous Abbey Road Studios in London. The band has also played at a cluster of diverse live venues since its birth from the smoky pubs to open-air events at Pickering Castle.

2nd - Supermodels

The Supermodels are a six-piece rock band from York. We play a varied set covering songs by The Who, Lenny Kravitz, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Elvis Costello and Steve Earle. The band have been playing live for about two years and have built a solid following in Yorkshire.

3rd - Erics

This band headlined the Valley last year and we had so many of you ask for them back because of the way they took the roof off the marquee - the tent was bouncing! We struggled to get them, as they are some of Yorkshire's hardest working musicians. They had to move heaven and earth to get a Friday night slot for us at the Valley. But back they are - so brace yourselves to be musically head-butted on Friday night because the Erics are in town.

Saturday...from 1pm

The Back Street Heroes bike show (near the CMA tent)

Europe's biggest and best custom bike magazine and MAG supporter BSH have again sponsored the afternoon's entertainment at the Valley. The ride in bike show is the first of the season and all those winter projects get unveiled for the first time at the valley. With six great trophies to be won and a cash prize for best in show it's a nice way to relax between two crazy nights boogying.

Smacked arse comedy show, with Rick Hulse.

Our Friends Back Street Heroes have again come up trumps and provided on of the finest comedy shows on the biking calendar. For the seventh year in a row we will once again feature a legendary Saturday afternoon 'Smacked Arse Comedy Show'.

Following on from the roaring success of previous years, Rick Hulse will play host and compere to a whole new show featuring three of the UK's most talented stand-up comics.

As an added bonus, one of Britain's most promising newcomers will be adding a further dimension to the show in the form of a ten minute set as an entrant in the Smacked Arse Comedy 'Search for a Star' contest, which will be running throughout 2013.

Performing at Into the Valley on Saturday afternoon May 4th 2013 (1:00pm start) will be:

Gary Delaney (Headline Act): 'Quickfire material of the very highest quality is pretty much guaranteed from the fast-thinking Delaney, a master of the deadpan one-liner.' - The Guardian

Gary Delaney is a razor sharp. King of the one-liner comedians, he is widely regarded as being the most quotable comic on the circuit. The machine-gun speed of gags leaves the audience struggling to remember them all. He regularly plays all the big clubs including The Comedy Store, Jongleurs, Komedia, Glee, Rawhide, The Frog and Bucket, Hyena, Baby Blue, The Stand, Comedy Cafe, Lee Hurst's Backyard, Banana Cabaret and at clubs throughout the UK.

Gary co-wrote Ivan Brackenbury's Hospital Radio Roadshow, which was nominated for the If.Comedy award (formerly the Perrier award) in 2007. He also has recently appeared on Paramount's 'Comedy Blue'. Over the last few years Gary has been in greater demand than ever including a number of TV appearances on 'Dave's One Night Stand' and 'Mock The Week'.

It is three years since Gary has performed for bikers in a Smacked Arse comedy show and he is looking-forward to it immensely.

El Purnell: 'is the best and most original character act I have seen in years' - Urban Comedy

2010 saw El Purnell in Edinburgh as part of the PBH Free Fringe working with Ben Lawes in the successful show, Ben El Fun. Since then he has been stunning audiences throughout the UK with a surreal act that defies comparison. More recently he performed as a warm-up act at the Hull Comedy Festival for Milton Jones which gained the positive feedback from Milton, 'Very good, I like the Cash in the Attic line'.

In 2011 El Purnell performed at the Farmyard Party in Yorkshire. The performance won him the Smacked Arse Comedy 'Search for a Star 2011' which in turn granted him the honour of performing in the Frog & Bucket Comedy Club Roadshow at You've Been NABDed 21 where he once again stormed the show and earned a couple of thousand new fans. Believed by many to be Ecuador's leading stand-up comedian, El Purnell is sure to become a massive star of comedy.

Dom Carroll: 'Police warn you not to approach this man' - Manchester Evening News

Dom Carroll has no idea how he became a comedian, it just happened. He used to be an undertaker and working with the recently deceased gives a man plenty of time for reflection and this probably explains his relaxed almost morose style of comedy.

Dom performed at the You've Been Nabbed rally in one of the earliest Frog & Bucket Comedy Club Roadshow's way-back in 1996. In 2012 he returned to perform a spectacular set in the Smacked Arse comedy show at the Autumn NABD'ness rally and instantly joined the ranks of those very special comedians who know from experience that bikers are the best audiences in the world. A smiling assassin he charms the audience but has opinions and is not afraid to air them. You may be ashamed you laughed ... but you will laugh!

Smacked Arse 'Search for a Comedy Star' spot: TO BE ANNOUNCED!

RICK HULSE (HOST & COMPERE): 'If you haven't been to one of Rick Hulse's 'Smacked Arse' comedy shows yet, you really should; but be warned, the laughter can leave your face and ribs really aching.' - Barbara Rossa (BSH Magazine)

Rick Hulse's comedy style is brash, uncompromising and down-to-earth. Though the language can be raw, his insights into the world of, dieting, drugs, marriage, and motorcycling never fail to entertain. His long involvement in the biking scene, seventeen years as the Chairman of the NABD and thirteen years of writing comic fiction and manic articles under such names as Professor Pierre O'Bollox, M Phetamine and Shirley Crabtree, together with his off-hand Mancunian manner have made him a firm favourite in hosting bikers parties and rallies.

If you are looking for political correctness bring a microscope. Rick's acerbic Mancunian wit bulldozes its way through life, the universe and everything (everything rude or alcohol related anyway).

Saturday...from 7.30pm

1st Bessie and the Zinc Buckets

One of Into the Valley favourites Bessie and the Zinc Buckets return ... The origins of the buckets are a little bit unclear and hazy but since 1983 (or was it 84?) they have been together as a rampaging rocky horse of a band. Hill-billy bluegrass, some rock and roll, and some classic rock sounds from Black Sabbath, or U2 are played by Kev Bucket and his double base, sounds mental? IT IS

2nd Broken Angel

A 5 piece Classic Rock Covers band. Broken angel have been at the forefront of the local scene for many years now and never failed to rock the party, belting out rock classics from past to present. Fronted by the superb vocals of Mick Norbury, Broken Angel have built up a superb following over the years and are truly a band not to be missed !

3rd Glam Rocks

Be Prepared to end Saturday night bouncing to T-Rex, Bowie, Bay City Rollers and no doubt the Wombles. Glam Rockz play all the hits of the early 70's, whether you was there or not you will know every one of the list of hits. When you see hordes of bikers singing along and bouncing to the Sweet's Blockbuster you will understand how this band is the band to end the nights music with a bang.

Your DJ all weekend is TBFM's Big Pav, till 2am. Big Pav is a Biker and DJ for the internet biker station TBFM with over 20 years experience in the leisure and music industry he has worked at music venues and bike events up and down the country.

WOW !!!! Twenty quid for a packed weekend of fun and frolics .... money well spent !!!
